*Important* Elementary School Restart Plan
May 27, 2020
As you are aware, the Government of British Columbia is moving into the next phase of BC’s Restart Plan. Given the positive data trends related to COVID -19, the Provincial Health Officer believes it is safe to provide greater access to schools for the month of June. I appreciate that the decision to have your child(ren) return to school is very personal. We will do everything possible to support your child(ren) regardless of the decision you decide to make. Please be reminded that if at any time you change your mind, and decide to have your child(ren) return prior to the last day of school on June 25, you must contact the school office to share your intention.
In-person instruction and remote learning is going to look different for the month of June. You can anticipate that your child(ren) will experience a reduction in the amount of remote learning through to the end of the school year. As we navigate the complexities of organizing classrooms, you will become aware that we have had to make changes to the way that we provide in-person instruction and remote learning opportunities. I know that this is another disruption to your child(ren)’s school year, and I am asking for your patience and understanding as we work together in the best interest of our learners.
Our time together in June will look very different from our normal school routine. You will receive an email or phone call no later than the end of day Thursday which will outline important details about returning to school on June 1. Schedules for staff and students have been adjusted as necessary. In some cases, your child(ren) will see familiar staff and friends, and sometimes they will not. The shape of the school day is being amended to support all required health and safety protocols. This is our highest priority. Our goal is to balance your child(ren)’s educational needs within a safe and supportive learning environment.
Year-end progress reports will be distributed in June. Please note that in some areas of learning, the comments will reflect work completed prior to spring break and thus provide a final assessment of the year’s work. Progress reports prepared under these circumstances may not provide the same amount of rich, detailed feedback that usually goes into a report card.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we move forward with greater openness in our schools for the month of June. All the staff at Cook are looking forward with anticipation to when we will all be back together again.
For those who have decided that their child(ren) will not be returning to school at this time, please let them know that we miss them and cannot wait until we can be together again. We hope that they will continue to work hard on their school work, stay healthy and be kind.
For those who have decided that their child(ren) will be returning to school starting on June 1 - we cannot wait to welcome them back!
Please review with your child(ren) the attached Welcome Back to School Poster which has important health and safety information.
Please review the attached Frequently Asked Questions document for important information about the remainder of the school year.
The Daily Health Declaration process is an important part of the Health and Safety procedures at our school. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your child's FULL NAME AND DIVISION before your child comes to school next week to acknowledge that you have read, understood, and will engage in the Daily Health Declaration process. Thank you in advance.
